If you lose your job unexpectedly, you probably feel depressed and dejected, feeling self pitied and unable to carry out your normal routine. But if l were you, l would rather count it as a challenge to look inward and thereafter come out stronger. l will then ask myself the following questions:

1. What are my mistakes and what lesson has my layoff thought me?

2. Do l need to change my approach to work and work harder on my next job?

3. Am l really qualified for the job or should l acquire new skills?

4. Should l change my career, considering my strength, weaknesses and passion?

After evaluating all these questions and based on the answers to each of them, l will then make a bold step to forge ahead. The first thing l would do is to be sincere with myself and face the reality on ground. After this, l would try and cut down on all unnecessary spending and place myself on a limited budget by reducing my phone calls, cut down on my entertainments, eating at home and stop buying junk food and try to be more prudent in my spending.

After all these, l will then look inward to earnest my talents and creativity in other to develop on my hidden potentials which l might have not taken seriously over the years. If am still not convinced that l can get on in life with all these options, then l might consider searching for another job or to acquire new skill.

I would not waste time in searching for my contacts by e mail and telling them the situation of things. This contacts will include my former co-workers, colleagues both close and far, fellow alumni, clergymen and job recruiters asking them if they know anyone l could contact and tell them to keep their ears open for any job vacancy that fits my profession. I would not stop at this; l will also try my hands on all adverts for jobs that appear to target my career and passion.

Above all you should have the mentality and believe that very soon you will bounce back. This is very important as it gives you psychological advantage that helps you prepare your mind and gives you confidence required to face the challenges ahead especially when you are attending job interviews. I want you to note that all these steps are no guarantee. But l bet you if these plans are well executed, you will land yourself a good job in no time.
